Ecoregions

The Virginia Wildlife Action Plan uses an ecoregional approach to classify and manage wildlife and habitats in the commonwealth. In the Plan, Virginia is divided into six ecoregional sections:

  • Coastal Plain
  • Piedmont
  • Blue Ridge Mountains
  • Ridge and Valley
  • Northern Cumberland Mountains
  • Southern Cumberland Mountains
